FAQs

Questions and answers for the most common issues that Valley Fleet Support encounters from fleets looking to learn more about grants and compliance in California’s Central Valley.

How much funding is available for new trucks and what are the ‘strings attached’?

Natural gas trucks are eligible for up to 100,000 per truck, zero-emission trucks are available for up to 200,000 per truck, depending on the program. Some programs require annual mileage reporting, but other programs do not. Please reach out to Valley Fleet Support directly to learn more about specific grant requirements.

Is this a for-profit service?

No, Valley Fleet Support is a California Energy Commission funded project that provides no-cost consulting to California’s public and private Central Valley fleets and truck operators.

Where can I find alternative fuel truck options?

Options vary based on vocation and duty cycle, check with Valley Fleet Support or your local dealer to see what solutions are available for your needs.

How do I know if my trucks are compliant?

California truck and bus regulations are changing. The Final Regulation Order from the California Air Resources Board has helpful tables to check if your truck is currently in compliance. Valley Fleet Support staff can help you review these and upcoming regulations.

Are electric and natural gas trucks as reliable as diesel trucks?

Across the nation, fleets of all vocations are reliably operating tens of thousands of natural gas and electric vehicles in their daily routes. If you would like to hear from a fleet manager, we have interviews and case studies from multiple commercial vehicle fleet operators who are reducing costs and emissions with alternative fuel vehicles. We can introduce you to other fleet operators that are having great success already.

Do I need to get rid of my old truck to receive funding for a new truck?

Most grants do require scrappage, but a few offer smaller amounts of funding for fleet expansion.

How do I participate in a Central Valley grant? How do I get money for a new truck?

While there are many routes to participating in grants, we encourage truck and fleet operators to contact Valley Fleet Support to discuss which grants fit your fleet the best. The money is available, and we are happy to help identify the best program and start the application.
